Portsmouth Historical Society Celebrates Centennial Year!
Portsmouth Historical Society was established in 1917 to save the gambrel-roofed home (originally constructed in 1758) from being sold to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC threatening the city’s preservation efforts. The Society restored the house and opened it to the public as the John Paul Jones House in 1920.
Volunteer Opportunities for the 2017 Season
Portsmouth Historical Society is seeking volunteers to assist visitors in the Discover Portsmouth Welcome Center and at the John Paul Jones House. We are also seeking experienced guides for our seasonal walking tour program that begins in May. For more information on our volunteer program contact Erika@portsmouthhistory.org
