Hi! My father,photographer JD Lincoln, published a book in the early 80s titled “People of Portsmouth”, a black and white record of the rise of Portsmouth in the 70s. I have a dozen copies and would be happy to donate one to the Historical Society if you are interested. His photos will be displayed for the 400th celebration this summer at the Athenaeum as well. I visited Portsmouth last weekend with my daughter and son-in-law, as way to mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival and settlement of our 9th great grandfather, David Thompson, on the New Hampshire coast. We visited Thompson Island, Hampton Beach, and Rye also, and felt an amazing connection and kinship with him.
One of the highlights of our visit was taking a walking tour of Portsmouth with Jeff Thomson of the PHS, who gave a very informative and interesting history of Portsmouth, its development, architecture, historical figures, and amusing anecdotes of the town. It was great having a native of the town making the presentation.
I’m so glad you had a great time visiting Portsmouth. It’s a shame it’s Jeff Thomson, not Thompson and you didn’t discover a distant cousin still living in the area!
